Position Purpose: Under the supervision of the Hospice Manager or RN designee, as defined by the Nevada State Board of Nursing, this position is responsible to provide or assist in activities of daily living, as well as emotional support to Hospice patients in their homes or inpatient facilities as part of the Hospice Plan of Care. The Hospice Aide will also provide Homemaker Duties as appropriate to the Plan of Care to meet patient/family needs. Direct supervision means direction given by the Hospice Manager or RN designee who is periodically available as the site where care is provided to a patient or available for immediate assistance. Nature and Scope: This position provides personal care services to the Hospice's patients as prescribed by the physician and in compliance with the state's nurse practice act, Federal Regulations and any other regulations defining Nevada's Hospice Aide services.

The Hospice Aide is responsible for the provision of a number of services to meet the patients' personal care needs and to promote their comfort and dignity. These services include personal hygiene, mobility, safety and comfort to hospice patients as direct by the registered nurse. The Hospice Aide must be knowledgeable of the uses of equipment specific to the area of employment.

Decisions referred to the Hospice Manager or RN designee include: information to and orders from the physician, administration of medication and IV's, formulation of the patient care plan, the performance of nursing procedures and resolution of any unusual circumstances not included in current policies and procedures or standards of care.

This position is challenged to maintain accuracy; communicate effectively with different types of people, including grieving families; function effectively under stress; and the ability to identify and maintain priorities while responding simultaneously to requests from different people. This position is also challenged to remain courteous and tactful at all times.

The Hospice Aide assists in procedures to facilitate the proper documentation of the patient care from pre-admission to discharge. The incumbent must be familiar Hospice philosophy and care. The Hospice Aide is responsible for other duties as assigned.

Must be able to function in a practice environment with minimal direct supervision, accepting personal responsibility for maintaining a professional relationship with the Hospice's patients and their families. Ability to transport self to multiple locations in a day.

Minimum Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred Education: Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Experience: Minimum six-months experience as a Hospice Aide, Home Health Aide or CNA. Hospice experience preferred. License(s): Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada CNA license. Valid CA or NV driver's license. Certification(s): AHA BLS certification. Completion of state recognized and federally compliant training program and/or competency evaluation. Compliant with in-service regulations and requirements. Computer / Typing: Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. EEO/M/F/Vet/Disabled
